not okay

telling people to vote for the lesser of two evils

is like telling a pregnant woman to marry

the psychologically abusive alcoholic,

because, "at least he doesn't hit you."

using guilt trips and threats to make them do it

is just more psychological abuse.

that is not how we heal.

heal yourself first,

don't do it for you,

do it for the babies

do we want them growing up

thinking this is okay?

fear frozen heart

you reap what you sow
spineless coward
masturbate with words
and call it poetry
blame somebody
some thing
anybody else
oh so pitiful
chickenshit
fraidy cat
it was up to you
all along
fear frozen heart
pining for warmth
steely eyes
soldered shut
neglecting the light
bitch and moan
why dontcha
abandoned in darkness
of your own design

Sunday Musings 9/22/2019

what if we look at the problem from a different angle and ask ourselves, "what kind of world allows the manufacture of weapons with the sole purpose of taking human life?" a world in which the government is the largest contractor of those companies who manufacture such weapons with the sole purpose of taking human life? so you're telling me this government is going to write some laws and put a stop to the small-scale killings that fill up our daily news, while the greater evil and the war that nobody talks about rages on? how does this make sense? how can anyone be so adamantly for anti-gun laws and not also be anti-war?

*whispers*
how can anyone be anti-war without also being anti- the government that wages that war to profit the companies that manufacture the weapons with the sole purpose of taking human life?

denial is a horrible thing, shame is a terrible burden to bear

saying that the term "redskins" isn't offensive
is like saying being hit by a truck shouldn't hurt
if the driver wasn't intentionally trying to run you over.

besides, you already know what people think about that
and you choose not to listen,
which would be the definition of the word hater.

to invalidate anyone's feelings is dehumanizing,
not just to the victims of such abuse, but to everyone.

standard response, "we don't care!"
and that right there is the problem nobody is talking about.

the witches' lament

she cast spells
thinking love
wouldn't come
without being
tricked into it
and proved
herself right

denial rules the world

new age brainwash
forgiveness and light
the torture never ends
good positive thinking
and blame the victim
you know, for good measure

question authority!

if you never question authority
how would you know if they're shooting you straight?

and if they were shooting you straight
why would they mind being questioned?

emotional triggers

...dialectic and the illusion of choice
and the manufacture of fear and lies
blame game, self destruct
what they do isn't up to you

hypocrisy

i'm not sure i follow
how you think it's okay
to berate people for buying

dominance talk

why does it surprise me when people's minds slam shut, like they always do?  and why do i always feel like the bad guy whether i back down from the fight or not?  why can't they see it's a game nobody ever wins?  none of the options being presented to us represent any kind of real decision, nor any kind of real change.  and yeah, b'gawd, i did double space after my periods.  because it reads better that way.  maybe we all just need to pause a little bit longer...

we were so close to coming out of the dark alley, they felt a need to knock us all over the heads and drag us back in it. if voting equals good government, explain why there isn't one. argh. they can't possibly believe the stuff they spew.

off with her head!

they want to believe so badly that the system might actually work if we just elect the right person for the job, unaware that their belief is the only thing propping up the whole house of cards.

the sound of minds slamming shut (or, cognitive dissonance) revisited

law is a violent institution,
and we expect it to protect us from violence.
("war is peace")
how is that supposed to work?

maybe, if our society is so terribly violent (it is)
and if we want that to change (do we?),
we might need to address the issue in a different way.

from the DOJ:
We define domestic violence as a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. Domestic violence can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic, or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that intimidate, manipulate, humiliate, isolate, frighten, terrorize, coerce, threaten, blame, hurt, injure, or wound someone.

why should that definition not also apply to institutions of societal control?

exodus

spiritual wisdom isn't for sale
you can't just pick it up in the gift shop at the luxury spa resort
no matter how much you paid to hear the guru talk at you
you can't just slap the words "native american" on it
and give it some elevated status
that the native americans themselves
never had

a story

story from a cherokee friend
as close as i can get it to his telling

so let me tell you
this story i heard
a long time ago
there was this boy...

to get to the fertile river valley
where the good hunting grounds were,
he had to cross some mountains.

along the way he came across a snake
the boy saw that the snake was struggling
and gave him some of his water
he was a big strong boy
and had brought more than enough
for himself and to share

the snake gratefully drank the water
and when he was feeling refreshed
he asked the boy if he might carry him
"you can just sit me on top of your backpack
i am not very big and you are very strong"

they boy hesitated but did not object
he carefully picked up the snake
gently placed him on top of his pack
and the two continued their journey
together

it wasn't so long before they reached the other side
where the river flows and the good hunting can be found
as the boy was helping the snake to the ground
suddenly and without warning
the snake struck and bit him on the leg

as the boy lay there in agony
he asked the snake why did he do that
after the journey and friendship they had shared

"because i'm a snake,  that's what snakes do"

hand-me-down blues

government can't possibly solve the problems that it creates. you can't have a small ruling class without oppression. that is how it was designed. corruption is inherent to the system. the only thing different now than when plato laid it all out for us is that we no longer think of that oppression and corruption as something that is good for us, so now they deny the nature of the beast, try to hide it.

i wrote a poem about that
those words on paper
steal the land and claim
ownership over life itself
nobody wanted to see
what the mirror doesn't show
don't waste our time, we're busy

these things do matter, they do make a difference.

the earth is sacred, without her we would not exist, but she is not mother. mothers die. the earth will still be here even if we kill off everything that lives on it. you don't tame the wildness, you destroy it. you destroy it out of lack of respect for the sanctity of the earth. you are taught to fear that which should be held sacred and your mind slams shut at the thought that you might be responsible for what you have done.

football is a celebration of aggression, domination, and war. so how appropriate that the players would enjoy a board game during their time off that glorifies dominance over the earth? it's not a harmless game. #catan

copy/paste here

rational discourse doesn't rely upon emotional triggers and red herrings and ad hominem attacks and appeals to authority. such fallacies are all signs of persuasive/divisive rhetoric instead. bullies who are like that want you to fight back, because violence is the only thing they understand.

********

the wardens live in the same prison as the rest of us, they just get special status and privileges denied to others... tricks people into thinking the game can be won.
(hashtag panopticon)

the only thing the rulers were born with that the rest of us don't have is money
(friendstacy on the divine right of kings)

*********

who is going to want to take the energy to try to explain something you have already decided you don't want to know and closed your mind to the possibility? it's like running face first into a brick wall. no fun.

less freedom and
call it "security"
BE AFRAID

friendstacy remix

history keeps repeating
because we keep forgetting
it already happened before

some people will tell you
whatever they think you want to hear,
especially if they are trying
to sell you some bullshit.
and that's nothing new. it's a really old trick.

beware the jabberwock, my son
chop off its head (silence the voice of dissent)
and the poem ends the same way it started

and sometimes i cry
